How to Fix Nikon Camera Not Turning On 

These are a few possible solutions to resolve your Nikon camera that isn’t turning on. 

1. Ensure Battery is Charged

When your Nikon camera is not turning on, you should ensure its battery is fully charged. Because of the low battery, you’ll not be able to switch it on. 

Your camera battery can be drained if you’ve left it turned on for an extended period or used it for some time. 

So, you should plug your camera into the charger by using the USB charging cable and AC power adapter. 

Insert the power cable into the AC adapter and plug it into the power socket; the other end of the cable inserts into your camera charging port securely. 

You’ll see LED illumination on the camera while it is charging; if the battery lamp is off, you should check whether the camera is correctly connected to power. 

After about 20 or 30 minutes of plugging it into the charger, you can try tuning on your camera. However, your Nikon camera can take 2 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge. 

2. Insert Battery Correctly

If the camera is not turning on after you’ve charged it for 30 minutes, you should check the battery position. 

Ensure that the battery is inserted all the way into the battery compartment. If the battery isn’t properly seated, the battery compartment door will not close. 

Due to the battery contacts are not aligned or contacting each other, your camera will not be turned on.

You should look at the battery contacts on the battery and inside the battery chamber for dust/ debris particles. 

If so, you should clean them with a dry cloth and gently clean the battery chamber using a brush. You can contact a Nikon-authorized service representative if you don’t know how to clean. 

4. Check Power Button

Using the device for a long period can cause dirt to go inside the power button and causing it from functioning properly. 

You can check the button by pressing it; the button can be faulty if you do not feel a tactile sound. The button should not be soft while you are pressing it. 

In this case, you should contact an expert technician, or if you have a technical background, you can fix it yourself. 

5. Screen is Faulty

In a few cases, your camera might be turned on, but its screen can be damaged or just blank and looks like it is not turned on. 

You can check it by clicking a picture. If you hear the camera shutter sound, it means your camera is switched on, and its screen is not working. 

You can contact an expert technician or take it to the Nikon-authorized services representatives. 

6. Change Charging Cable 

You should also look for the faulty charging cable because if the charging cable is faulty and the battery will not charge. 

If this is the reason, you should replace the charging cable with another compatible one to ensure it works. 

You can also buy a new one to charge the camera battery. Also, you should ensure you’ve inserted the charger firmly on both sides into the camera and electric socket. 

7. Dead Battery 

If you have a new charger and plug the camera into the charger for about 1 or 2 hours, it is still not working. Ensure that the battery is working correctly.

So, you should check the battery. If it doesn’t work, replace it with a new one. If using a new battery also doesn’t fix the camera, the issue will be related to your camera. 

8. Check the Operating environment

The environment where you are using your Nikon camera can affect the camera battery and cause it to not turn on. 

If you are using the camera in extreme cold or hot weather, you can face the camera not turning on issues. 

So, you should take your camera to room temperature and try turning it on after a few minutes.
