It’s a constant cycle of annoyance and disappointment. So, I researched online and find a few possible solutions for this frustration. 

In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps of why your camera keeps going offline and how you can fix it.

How to Fix PoE Camera Keeps Going Offline

You should try These possible solutions when your PoE camera keeps going offline. 

#1. Check the Camera Connections 

When you are facing an issue with your camera that keeps going offline, you should ensure that all camera equipment is connected securely. 

Because sometimes the wired connection between your router, camera, and PoE switch can be disconnected or disrupted due to any reason. 

So, you should check all the wires to ensure that your camera is communicating with a router and NVR using the PoE connection. 

If it does not resolve the problem you can disengage the cables and connect the router, PoE switch, NVR, and your camera from the start. 

#2. Change Cables 

If the problem is not resolved you should check the cables that you are using to establish the PoE connection between your camera. 

Over time these cables can become faulty or damaged or a few might have a manufacturing fault. 

So, you will need to replace the faulty cables with a new ones and get your camera working back perfectly. 

#3. Update Firmware

Software or firmware is a set of programs and their associated files that helps your devices to work properly and communicates with other devices. 

If your camera firmware is outdated it will cause the camera to malfunction or keeps it going offline. 

You should check your camera firmware version to ensure that it runs on the latest version. If it is outdated you should install its latest version. 

You can update it using the owner’s manual or manufacturer guidance from their official website. 

#4. Factory Reset Camera 

If you are still experiencing problems with your camera you should consider performing a factory reset for the device. 

Factory reset is a common term to return your camera to its factory default settings. Resetting will also remove the device software bugs that causing issues. 

Note: You should back up your all data before resetting because after resetting it will be removed and cannot be accessed. 

You can reset your camera by pressing and holding the reset button for about 15 seconds or visiting the owner’s manual for resetting your camera. 

If you are facing issues in resetting your PoE camera you should contact the customer support. 

#5. Fix your Router 

In the end, you should check your Wi-Fi router because it can be faulty or provide a weak Internet connection. 

You can test your router connection using online Wi-Fi speed checker software, if your router connection is slow you should fix following the below methods. 

Power cycle

The most common way to fix your Wi-Fi connection is to power cycle your router. The power cycling method includes completely turning the router power off and then on. 

Here is how you can power cycle your router:

1. Locate the power adapter of the router and disconnect it. 

2. Now, you should wait about one minute. 

3. Insert the power adapter again into the outlet and check if it works. 

Factory reset

If the Wi-Fi network is still not resolved you should factory reset your router and then connect your camera to ensure it is working. 

As you know factory resetting will return the router back to its factory default settings and remove bugs causing router malfunctioning. 

Here is how you can reset your Wi-Fi router:

1. Ensure the router is switched on and locate the reset button. 

2. Press and hold the reset button using a paperclip or other similar tool for about 15 seconds. 

3. Release the button and wait until the router reboots automatically.
