iPhone Wireless Charging Not Working (Solved)

Wireless charging is the smooth way to charge your iPhone by just placing it on the charging pad. You don’t need to plug in the charging cable to your mobile.

But wireless charging is the easiest way to charge your mobile as it is more complex and needs more attention than wired charging.

Wired charging just plug in the charging cable into your iPhone and you have done leave the mobile it will be charged. But in wireless charging a little bit of interruption may lead to stopping your charging.

If you are facing the same problem and don’t know what’s going on with your wireless charger and how you can fix it, then no need to worry.

Because I will explain all the possible reasons why your iPhone wireless charging does not work with their fixes.

How to fix the iphone wireless charging not working?

iPhone Wireless Charging Not Working

Before checking anything else you must know the following basic things to charge your iPhone with a wireless charger.

  • Use original power adapter given with the charger
  • Use original USB charging cable provided with the charger
  • Place your iPhone at the center of the charging pad
  • No external interference

If everything above you  doing well and still suffering from the problem then take a deep look at all possible reasons.

Wall plug

Normally we use the wall socket or wall plug available in our house. But did you think if your wall socket is not Qi-friendly then charging could be stopped. Wait, I will explain it with a few examples.

Suppose you have plugged in the charging pad into a power socket and you also have plugged in other home appliances at the same circuit.

You know that home appliances i.e. fridge, tv, AC etc draw more power than a wireless charger. Sometimes current fluctuation also occurs. This fluctuation can interrupt the charging process of your wireless charger.

You can also observe this phenomenon when you use an extension lead as a power outlet for a wireless charger and also plugged in other appliances. To check whether your wall socket is creating some problem to stop your wireless charger to work, plug it into a separate power outlet i.e. UPS etc.

If your charging starts then you must use a separate power outlet for charging your iPhone with wireless charger.

Power adapter

Power adapter is used in chargers to draw power from a power outlet and manage it to supply a device or your wireless charging pad.

If you use an incompatible power adapter you will fail to charge your iPhone. Here is a term used: “incompatible power adapter” means if your wireless charging pad requires 10W power and you are using a 5W output power adapter it will not work with it.

Also, ensure that you are not using the standard 5V/1A iPhone power adapter because it will not support wireless chargers.

Maybe you plug in the charging cable into your PC or laptop, it is also incompatible with these power outlets. Try to use the power adapter with another charger to check if it works with another charger or not.

If it works with another charger then your adapter is working fine but maybe it is incompatible with your wireless charger.

Replacement of the power adapter will be the best option to resolve this problem.

Charging cable

Charging cable should be of good quality. Cheaper and standard quality charging cables do not support wireless charging.

You can also check if the charging cable is twisted from any end will stop power supply to the charging pad.

Check the charging cable with another charger whether it works with it or not. If it works with another standard charger then it is clear the charging cable is working fine but not compatible with wireless charging.

It doesn’t support wireless charging. You should have to replace it with another one.

Metallic attachments

Wireless charging is based on magnetic induction of two coils. One coil Inside the charging pad and another in your mobile phone back.

When both coils attach together magnetic induction starts and your mobile starts charging. Whenever a metal body interferes, charging stops. Check if any metallic body attaches with your mobile or charging pad or not.

Put off the mobile case of your mobile phone and check if any metallic body is present in it i.e. pins, coins, grips, magnet or credit cards etc. If any object like metal body is present inside the case first remove it and then place your mobile on the charging pad.

Here you may also face a problem if your mobile body has some metallic material. If you are using your iPhone without a case then place a small thin piece of microfiber cloth between the charger and your mobile. It will fix the problem.

Mobile case

Wireless charging is weaker than the standard wired charging. It works with a mobile case but with a thin mobile case not with a thicker one. Check if your mobile case is thicker than 5mm then it could be the possible reason.

But some of the chargers may charge only upto 3-4mm thick mobile cases.

So check your mobile phone with a charger without a mobile case. Remove your mobile case and place your phone on the charging pad and check whether it charges without a mobile case or not.

If it starts charging then replacement of the mobile case will be the best option for you. You can buy a Qi-friendly mobile case available in the market specially designed for wireless charging.

Dirt or dust

As we discussed earlier, wireless charging is much weaker than wired charging. Therefore a little bit of dirt or dust may interrupt the charging process.

Check the charging pad if there is any dust or dirt on it and also check the charging ports of the power adapter, charging pad and charging cable.

Clean the surface of the charging pad with the help of a small piece of microfiber cloth.

Also, clean the ports with the help of a needle or toothbrush. Then plug in the charger and place your iPhone on it and check if it starts working or not.

Overheating

Wireless chargers produce heat during the charging process due to the magnetic induction. But it is quite a common phenomenon. But whenever your wireless charger is overheated it stops working to avoid any damage to its components.

This overheating may occur due to many reasons but might be you leave your charger plugged in. You should have to know that the charging pad draws standard power even if it does not charge a mobile.

So if you left the wireless charger for several hours it could damage the charger and eventually your wireless charger will not work with your iPhone.

Always ensure that you have plugged off the charger when not in use.

Check if your charger is overheated then plug it off from the power outlet and leave it for an hour or above at room temperature. When it cools down then plug it on and place your iPhone on the charging pad and check whether it is working or not.

Did your iPhone compatible

Wireless charging does not work with all the iphone devices. Older models of the iPhone does not support wireless charging.

First you should be ensure that your iPhone supports wireless charging or not. You can check on the guidebook of your mobile and as well on the wireless charger box too.

If you are not sure then you may also check online if your iPhone supports wireless charging or not.

Because if your mobile doesn’t support wireless charging your mobile will not be charged.

Hard reset iPhone

Sometimes your iPhone has minor glitches which may cause drainage of power.

As power from a wireless charger is lower than a wired charging so this power when drained by the mobile you will observe no charging on your mobile. Hard reset can fix all glitches, so follow these steps to hard reset your iPhone.

  • Quickly press and release the volume up button
  • Then press and release the volume down button
  • Then press and hold the side button
  • Keep holding the side button until the Apple logo appears

You have done it now your iPhone has been hard reset and all the minor glitches are fixed.

Turn on the charger and place your iPhone exactly at the center of the charging pad to check if it working or not.

Ask for replacement

If all the fixes doesn’t work for you then your wireless charger definitely have some hardware problem.

Take it to a good technician and see if he could anything for it. But if he also couldn’t do anything with it then check whether your charger comes in replacement warranty or not.

If your charger has a replacement warranty then replacement will be the best and final solution for this problem.
